Despite being created back in 1979, by 2014 it was found that only 25% of all land owners in Scotland were listed on the Land Register. This lead to the acting government setting out an ambitious 10 year plan to have all land owners – private, commercial or otherwise – on the Scottish Land Register by 2024.
The Land Register acts as a digital map-based system in which a land owner’s property lines are defined in absolution with no room for dubiety – as opposed to the 400 year old Sasine Register.
